Whitsunday Coast / Proserpine Airport Also Keen for Fly-In Fly-Out (FIFO) Growth... And Paid Parking from December!
Just days after our post (HERE) about the desire of the Whitsunday Airport at Airlie Beach to secure regular fly-in fly-out (FIFO) charter flights, comes news that the Whitsunday Coast/Proserpine Airport is also hoping growth in FIFO charter operations.
Whitsunday councillors have recently adopted the airport's strategic and operational plan for 2011-14, listing five main strategic priorities for the airport over the next three years.
Airline attraction was at the top of the list, followed by FIFO and charter growth to the Bowen and Galilee basins, as well as improving revenue streams from other facilities at the airport, including parking.
The development of a new Townsville-Whitsunday Coast-Moranbah route is high on the agenda, and the airport is also keen to add an overnight service from Brisbane. The Airport Manager is hopeful of announcing some new routes soon, which would be available from April 2012.
Destination awareness and marketing and working on aviation support, education facilities and development of a green corridor rounded out the list.
Meanwhile, from Thursday 1 December, the Whitsunday Council will introduce a schedule of parking fees. At this stage, parking will be free for the first half an hour, and then paid parking will range from $20 for 31 minutes to an hour, to $15 for seven to 24 hours. Longer term parking will be available for $13 per day.
The Whitsunday Coast/Proserpine Airport is the last airport of its size in Central Queensland to introduce paid car parking.
