I recently noted that Peace Aviation workers were busily moving all of their office and other equipment into their hangar facilities on the General Aviation side of Rockhampton Airport. I have been told that Peace Aviation's lease on their old office space - which is the old Ansett-ANA Terminal at Rockhampton Airport, ran out and is not being extended. Subsequently, Peace Aviation now operates exclusively from their hangar - as shown below.
I've been told that the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) is taking over all of the land from their current facilities and hangar to the General Aviation AVGAS refuelling facilities at Rockhampton Airport. This includes a vacant block (which by look of it used to be a hangar), the old Ansett-ANA terminal, and little old hangar that current houses local Cessna 150 VH-WWV.
The old Ansett-ANA terminal building is going to be knocked down in the very near future, as well as the small hangar. It is going to be a sad day when the old Ansett-ANA terminal gets knock down as it is the last remaining original building from the old Connor Park Airport (now Rockhampton Aiport). The other original building - the TAA terminal - used to be where the Rockhampton Aero Club building is now located.
Rumours are that the RFDS have plans to build a new hangar on the site, as there is a push to have as many as four RFDS King Air aircraft based at Rockhampton in the future. It will be interesting to see what happens!
This building was also used for the Countryair Terminal for many years servicing Great Keppel Island and many mining communities
ReplyDeleteYes, Countryair has around 30 years in that building!
