Gladstone Airport Has a Debt to Pay Off

The Gladstone Observer newspaper has recently reported that the man charged with leading Gladstone Airport into a new era believes that the council's massive investment will pay off.

The first board of the Gladstone Airport Corporation completed a two-day meeting recently, and its chair, David Hamill was full of beans. Mr Hamill said the council's debt on the airport was a large one, but that investment would prove a wise decision in the fullness of time.

Meanwhile, the Observer also reported recently that sports clubs at the Clinton Sports Park, which as a result of the Gladstone Regional Council’ decision earlier this year that the land at Clinton Sports Park would have to be used for expansion of Gladstone Airport, must wait to learn the fate of their home grounds.

The good news is though, if they are booted out, there are alternatives are being planned. And there has also been a small shift recently, when councillors decided it was best to wait for a decision from the newly formed Gladstone Airport Corporation.

The Gladstone Airport Master Plan 2011 found Clinton Sports Park would be needed for future expansion, particularly to create a new entry from Dawson Highway.

The new Gladstone Airport Corporation board will meet on a monthly basis and committees have been created within the board to working between those meetings.
