After a quick tip from a local, I've discovered through the Whitsunday Airport website, that it is for sale!
For sale through a local agent, the opportunity to buy the Whitsunday Airport / Whitsunday Aviation Village Estate (WAVE), is described as "a unique opportunity to own Australia's leading airpark". Inspections are by appointment only, and expressions of interest close in November.
Meanwhile, from The Whitsunday Times newspaper, Whitsunday pilot Paul Harrington walked away from the
inaugural AUSFLY Air Show at Narromine, New South Wales, with the 'Concourse
d'Elegance' trophy for best turned out aeroplane. Mr Harrington said his Aeromot AMT-22 Super Ximango powered glider - named 'Buzz' after the Toy Story character Buzz Lightyear - was an accidental entry to the
competition, which he was surprised yet pleased to have won.
Mr Harrington said winning the trophy for best turned out
certified aircraft at Australia's newest and most promising air show was a real
coup. "It doesn't just mean it was nice and clean on the day
- it's the fuselage art, the way it's maintained, the interior layout and
there's a whole lot of other things they probably look at," he said.
"To win that first prize for a general aviation aircraft at this inaugural
air show is a bit of an historical thing I think [and] I'm pretty pleased with
that."
Buzz was just one of a diverse array of
aircraft on display at AUSFLY, which was held in mid-September. Mr Harrington, who started
flying and building hang gliders in 1975, has owned the plane for eight years
flying it across Australia as far west as Broome (WA) and as far south as
Kangaroo Island (SA). Mr Harrington said due to health issues, Buzz was regretfully
now up for sale.
