Some Photos from Wednesday at the Australian International Airshow at Avalon Airport

On Wednesday 27 February, I spent an absolutely fantastic day at the Australian International Airshow at Avalon Airport near Melbourne.  There are numerous types and sizes of both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters on display, as well as some great Australian and overseas military aircraft.

The Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) is well represented - visitors are even invited inside the Boeing C-17A Globemaster III A41-211.

The major supporting Military aircraft come from the United States Air Force (USAF) with Boeing B-52H Stratofortress 61-0012 dominating the flightline.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) Boeing B757-200 NZ7571 departed after visiting for the day.  A Japan Air Self-Defence Force (JASDF) Boeing E-767 also visited, although I unfortunately missed it!

As the afternoon wore on, the airborne action really heated up with spectacular displays put on by one of the two USAF Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptors.

The Breitling Wingwalkers and their antique Boeing Stearman bi-planes then put on a spectacular display - although one of the bright orange aircraft ended up making an emergency landing in a field next to Avalon Airport with suspected engine troubles.

A RAAF Brittish Aerospace (BAe) Hawk 127 put on a spirited display, ending by deploying a drag shute after landing.

A USAF Boeing C-17A Globemaster III put on a spectacular handling display.

A flight of four RAAF Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornetts (Rhinos) put on a truly spectacular display.

USAF General Dynamics(Lockheed Martin) F-16 90-0824 put on an absolutely fantastic solo display.

There were also aerobatic displays showcasing the talent of both Australian and overseas pilots and their aircraft.  The highlight was the Tinstix of Dynamite and their pyrotechnic accompaniment!

What a great day - and I have three more days of the Airshow to go!
