Virgin Australia to stop Rockhampton to Townsville Airport Flights

Earlier this month it was reported that Virgin Australia had notified the Rockhampton Regional Council of its plans to cancel its direct flight between Rockhampton and Townsville early in the new year.  The flights between Rocky and Townsville are currently operated by Virgin Australia Regional Airlines (VARA) ATR 72 aircraft.

A Council ppokesperson said that while it was disappointing to lose any service, the airport still had a strong future servicing the resource industry and he hoped to work with Virgin in this area in the future.

Passenger numbers have been too low on the Rocky to Townsville flight for some time to support its continuing operation.  However, regular users of the service have hit back on social media and in the Rockhampton Morning Bulletin newspaper saying that if the scheduling had not been recently changed and the prices increased, there would not have been such low support.
