Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Airbus A330-200 / KC-30A Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) A39-002 at Rockhampton Airport Wednesday

Local plane spotter Ash B was one of a small number of enthusiasts who turned to Rockhampton Airport out late on Wednesday 19 March to enjoy the visit of Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Airbus A330-200 / KC-30A Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) A39-002.

The KC-30A landed just on dusk after arriving from Amberley Air Base.

On landing, it appears as though A39-002 sustained a bird-strike - as the photo below shows - there are 'remains' of a bird flying off the KC-30A as it was on very-short finals.

A39-002 sat on Taxiway Juliette at Rockhampton for some time, and eventually taxied out and departed back to Amberley as "Dragon 25".

Information suggested that it was to continue North to Townsville, however with the apparent bird strike, this plan was changed and it returned South.

Thanks to Ash for allowing us to share his great photos!

Stay tuned to the CQ Plane Spotting Blog for more great photos of this great visitor to Rocky!
