A Few Great Photos from Lady Elliot Island Airstrip

David G from Maryborough Aviation Services was summoned to Lady Elliot Island on Wednesday 4 March to assist with repairs to a visiting helicopter.  While he was there he was very surprised to see a selection of aircraft and helicopters and captured a few great photos which he kindly shares with us on the CQ Plane Spotting Blog.

The visiting aircraft were (as expected) dominated by Seair / Istlecote aircraft which operate daily into Lady Elliot Island from the South-East corner of Queensland - Gold Coast, Brisbane and Redcliffe - along with destinations on the Fraser Coast - Bundaberg, Hervey Bay and occasionally, Maryborough.

Cessna 208 Caravans VH-LMD and VH-LMZ were joined by Seair's latest acquisition, fellow Cessna 208 VH-TQW, which has until recently, operated in country New South Wales.

Seair's Pilatus Britten-Norman BN2A Islander VH-RUT and Cessna T210M VH-SDU was also spotted by David, while he reports he missed another Islander VH-MBF.

The helicopter requiring attention was Gold Coast-based Eurocopter AS.350B3 Squirrel VH-MDQ.

The squirrel is flown by a very well known former sports world champion.

Also spotted by David at Lady Elliot Island was Aerospatiale AS.355F1 VH-HRU of McDermott Aviation.

Some stunning photos from a stunning location off the Fraser Coast!

Lady Elliot Island is Lady Elliot Island is a coral cay located at the southern tip of the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef, located only 80kms north-east of Bundaberg.  It is the closest Great Barrier Reef island to Brisbane.

Thanks David!
