Big Weekend at Emu Park with “Festival of the Wind” and Rocky Aero Club Flying Comp on Sunday

The Rockhampton Aero Club (RAC) has sent out a reminder to start planning for a massive weekend at Emu Park - 45km NE of Rockhampton & 21km NW of Yeppoon.

On Sunday 26 April, a special event to celebrate local aviator Ivan Unwin's 70 years of active flying will be held at the Emu Park Airstrip, in conjunction with the Rockhampton Aero Club flying competition.  The competition is open to everyone including non pilots!

The "fun for everyone competition" consist of three events – balloon bursting, flour bombing and finally a spot landing. Highest total points wins!  The entire experience will cost only $85.00 (in their Cessna 150) and includes entry fee, certificate of participation and the fun of real flying.

The day commences when the Club flys their aircraft to Emu Park Airstrip and then mark the landing line. Names and details are taken, and the competition starts around 10.30am.

Following the competition, there will be a BBQ lunch at the Emu Park Airstrip.  Food and cold drinks will be available, along with shade, toilet and a water tank - and please bring a chair!

There's plenty of spacious aircraft parking in parking lots. The local Area Frequency is 126.7

Enquiries to Pat Nixon-Smith/Martin at the Emu Park Airfield Reference Group on:  beaches@cqnet.com.au or 0448 746 114 (text message ok).

All aviators & friends are welcome, and even if you don’t know Ivan, come and celebrate a unique achievement in aviation!

Also at Emu Park on Sunday 26 April, the “Festival of the Wind” will be held at Bell Park / Fishermans Beach.  The event is being hosted by Emu Park Lions Club and will feature a formation flypast by the Rockhampton Aero Club aircraft.
