A big crowd on aviation enthusiasts and the plain curious were on hand - including local plane spotters Kayanne H and Trevor H - to watch on as it gracefully touched down on Rocky's Runway 15 after flying direct from Johor Bahru Senai International Airport (Malaysia) as ADB298F.
After Customs formalities were completed, the ground engineers were again joined by local ground crew and the Antonov commenced loading with its front landing gear being raised and the aircraft placed into its unique 'kneeling' position to allow the loading of its cargo. On this flight, two of the four Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF) Boeing CH-47SD Chinook helicopters - identified as '88199' and '88192' - and their engines and some support equipment were then loaded to be transported home.
At the time of writing, UR-82007 is scheduled to depart Rocky flying direct to Paya Lebar Air Base in Singapore about 1.00am on Monday 14 November. It seems to be bypassing the 'usual' tech stop in Darwin!
As we've mentioned, UR-82007 should return to Rockhampton Airport one final time on Thursday 18 November, again arriving around 8.00am and departing later that night after loading the final two RSAF Chinook helicopters.
Stay tuned to the CQ Plane Spotting Blog Facebook page for all the latest updates - remember the dates and times published above are very much subject to change!
Sincere thanks to Kayanne H and Trevor H for taking the time to capture and send through these great photos!
