British Around-the-World Aeropro Eurofox 912(iS) G-GBNZ Calls into Proserpine (Whitsunday Coast) Airport

An interesting aircraft on a special journey was noted arriving into Proserpine (Whitsunday Coast) Airport on Saturday 1 December in the form of British-registered Aeropro Eurofox 912(iS) G-GBNZ.  It touched down from RAAF Base Amberley concluding the latest leg of the 'RAF 100 Great Britain to New Zealand Expedition'.

The small Slovakian-built Eurofox is on a journey from England to New Zealand to honour the Royal Air Force's (RAF) 100 years of operation and looked to arrive in Australia at the start of November.  After a period of rest and relaxation (including a trip home to England) the pilots completed the cross of the Great Australian Bight over the course of this week before they headed to the Whitsundays.

2018 marks the 100th anniversary of the formation of the RAF from the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Naval Air Service, to create the first independent air force in the world. At its peak, the RAF was truly a global force, resulting in a rich historical legacy over a wide geographical area.

The RAF 100 Great Britain to New Zealand expedition aims to visit a large number of significant former RAF locations on just under an 17,000 mile route, following the path paved by the aeronautical trail blazers of the 1920s and 30s.

The 17,000 miles will be flown at 100 mph, powered by 100 hp, celebrating 100 years and visiting 27 locations, all bar 2 of which have significant RAF connections. En route we will visit 6 schools to promote aviation and STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) in general.

Certainly a great journey which you can follow on their very informative and entertaining website:  http://gb-nz.com/

UPDATE!  On Sunday 2 December, G-GBNZ departed Proserpine (Whitsunday Coast) Airport for Cairns and the continuation of its journey to New Zealand.
