Firstly, KC-30A / MRTT A39-003 "Dragon 56"departed RAAF Base Amberley and flew directly to Cairns. It then returned South and returned to Amberley but via the missed approach at Rockhampton Airport.
Soon after, KC-30A / MRTT A39-004 "Dragon 55" also departed Amberley and also flew up Cairns. It also then returned South back to Amberley, also via a missed approach at Rockhampton Airport.
As shown, A39-004 still wears additional decals to commemorate the RAAF's 100th anniversary.
Of interest, the RAAF currently has seven KC-30A MRTT aircraft are flown by 33 Squadron based at RAAF Base Amberley. The Squadron is responsible for aerial refuelling and long-range passenger transport and is controlled by No. 86 Wing, which is part of Air Mobility Group.
Sincere thanks to local plane spotter Scott H for taking the time to capture and send through these great photos!
