The first military visitor into the region for the new occurred on
Friday 12 January when Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Boeing B737-7ES / E-7A Wedgetail Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) aircraft A30-004 was noted completing airwork, including several missed approaches, at Hervey Bay (Fraser Coast) Airport.

It looked to fly up from RAAF Base Williamtown and then fly down to and land at RAAF Base Amberley for a short time. It then returned to Williamtown.
Of interest, A30-004 was heard to be flying as "Wedgetail 03".
