Exercise Talisman Sabre 2023 - United States Marine Corps (USMC) Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion Helicopter 161993 (YN-19) "Kong 41" Pops into Rockhampton Airport

On Friday 4 August, local photographer Steve V was at the right place at the right time to capture some photos as a United States Marine Corps (USMC) Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallion helicopter made another surprise but most welcome visit to Rockhampton Airport. 

It is believed to have arrived direct from the United States Navy (USN) amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA-6) which is currently in waters near the Shoalwater Bay Training Area (SWBTA).

The mighty helicopter wore the serial number 161993 (Code YN-19) and was heard to use the radio callsign of "Kong 41".  It was interesting to note that the only visible squadron markings were 'HMH-USA' - part of one of the Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadrons.

After only a few minutes on the ground, the Super Stallion departed Rockhampton Airport back to the ship.
