An English couple circumnavigating the globe in a home-made plane called into Gladstone Airport on Saturday 29 January for a flying visit. Patrick Elliott and Linda Walker left the UK on September 11 and have so far, visited 18 countries.
The plane, registered G-LGEZ is a Rutan “Long-Ez”,and despite being a small aircraft, it can cruise at between 260km-300km an hour. It can travel about 10 hours without refuelling.
Since leaving Cannes in France on September 11, they have dropped into Italy, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Oman, India, Thailand and Indonesia before finally setting down in Darwin in late November. After popping into coastal cities around the country, they are now travelling north before setting a course for Japan, through Alaska, Canada, Scotland and back to England.
