Articles have recently appeared in local newspapers stating that the planned $4.5 million redevelopment of Clermont Aerodrome will commence very soon. The upgrade which is funded by Rio Tinto will see much needed improvements made to both the runway and terminal building at the Isaac Regional Council-owned Aerodrome
Council has advised that Clermont Aerodrome will be closed from Saturday 18 June until Sunday 31 July in a move deemed “necessary” by Council to ensure that the risks of those working on and around the upgrade site are kept to minimum.
During the closure period, emergency services will be provided with alternatives to ensure an uninterrupted service. Other users are to use alternate airstrips such as Dysart, Emerald, or Moranbah. Aviation fuel services will no longer be available at the aerodrome during the reconstruction either.
Skytrans Airlines’ regular fly-in fly-out charters from and to Brisbane are believed to be operating through Emerald Airport during the time of the closure.
The upgrade of the aerodrome will provide necessary repairs to existing facilities, as well as see the construction of a new terminal building. It will also allow for other users such as the emergency services, crop dusting businesses, rural property owners, and aviation enthusiasts, to continue to use the facilities in the long-term.
UPDATE!! Shown below are the plans that have been released by the Isaac Regional Council showing the final design of the new terminal...
