Former Channel 7 Aerospatiale AS-355F-1 Écureuil 2 Helicopter VH-SEV Pops into Rockhampton Airport Twice This Week

Over the course of this week, former Channel 7 television (Sydney) Aerospatiale AS-355F-1 Écureuil 2 (Twin Squirrel) Helicopter VH-SEV called into Rockhampton Airport heading North on Tuesday 13 February and then heading back South on Friday 16 February.

Local plane spotter Scott H was on hand on Tuesday after VH-SEV had looked to earlier arrive from the Sunshine Coast.  It looked to continue further North on Wednesday 14 February.

Then, on Friday 16 February, VH-SEV was again noted calling into Rockhampton Airport, this time, it was heading back South.

VH-SEV spent several years in the skies over Sydney and New South Wales (NSW) operating for the Channel 7 television network.  It was re-registered in August 2017 to Rotor Head P/L also in Sydney.

UPDATE!  On Monday 12 March, VH-SEV suffered an engine failure and possible fire at Bankstown Airport in Sydney.  The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) is investigating and reports that "During landing, the pilot experienced a suspected failure of the no. 2 engine and shut it down. After landing, smoke and fire was detected emanating from the engine cowls. Post-flight, it was determined the exhaust ducts had become detached and the exhaust collector was badly damaged."

Sincere thanks to local plane spotter Scott H for taking the time to capture and send through these great photos!
