Possible Extension of Plane Spotting Facilities at Rockhampton Airport

Over the last couple of weeks, local plane spotters have noticed a new area being prepared at Rockhampton Airport adjacent to the existing plane spotting and viewing platform area near the Qantas Freight and Virgin Australia Freight sheds.

There are a set of old aircraft stairs nearby and it has been suggested that a new platform will be constructed that will face the main Runway 15/33 and Taxiway Juliette.

As with the previous platform, all traffic using the main runway can be seen with Runway 15 departures rotating pretty much in front of you.

There are also rumours continuing that plane spotters and enthusiasts may also soon have access to a small fenceline to watch aircraft around near the General Aviation (GA) area adjacent to the new Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) facilities, however this remains blocked off awaiting further maintenance.
