A Quick Look at Dysart Aerodrome
I recently hit the road to Dysart for work and called into Dysart Aerodrome. The Aerodrome is located about 4km from Dysart township on the Middlemount (connection) Road.
Facilities are fairly basic with sealed runway, small terminal building, and a small apron - complete with a Jabiru LSA parked. The Aerodrome can handle Dash-8 sized aircraft although generally plays host to smaller general aviation type aircraft.
There is also one open shed-like hangar, which on the day of my visit, contained local Cessna 172 VH-NBB. In previous years this hangar contained a nice YAK-52 VH-YRW (as shown in 2008).
Dysart receives fly-in fly-out (FIFO) charters operated by light aircraft mostly from other airports around Central Queensland. In previous years, larger Skytrans Dash-8 aircraft and General Aviation Maintenance (GAM) Dornier 228 aircraft operated charters to Dysart from Mackay and Brisbane as shown.
Toll Express Freight also previously called into Dysart using metro aircraft that flew from Mackay and departed to Emerald. Currently it is believed that freight is flown to Emerald by Advance Aviation where this aircraft meets the Toll Express metro for delivery to Brisbane.
