Officially launched on Tuesday 7 May and following the successful acquisition of Skywest Airlines last month, Virgin Founder Sir Richard Branson and Virgin Australia CEO John Borghetti have officially launched Virgin Australia Regional Airlines.

The regional airline and fully owned subsidiary of Virgin Australia is based in Western Australia.  The new - albeit rebranded Skywest Airlines - operation will have 32 aircraft operating more than 800 services a week to 41 destinations.  Fokker 50 VH-FNA and Fokker 100 VH-FSQ have been joined by Airbus A320 VH-YUD – and are the first three aircraft to be rebranded in Virgin Australia colours.

Hence forth the CQ Plane Spotting Blog will refer to ATR 72 operations in Queensland as being flown by Virgin Australia Regional Airlines.
