VH-LQX then continued from Roma Airport to the Gold Coast.
Of interest, VH-LQX is based at Melbourne (Essendon) and appeared to fly up from there via a number of stops to Charleville Airport on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
UPDATE! Over the next couple of days, VH-LQX returned to Essendon, arriving there on Thursday 7 January.
VH-LQX is painted in United States Army (US Army) colours and wears the serial number '112001'. It was reportedly built to a 1951 order - in the days when the United States Air Force (USAF) ordered more than 17,000 aircraft a year. It was delivered in 1952 as an L-19A-CE, serial 51-12001.
While the exact history of this aircraft is not fully known, it seems likely that it eventually went to the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) before being 'demobbed' and exported to Australia, becoming VH-LQX in 1991.
