It was a fantastic day, with a good steady stream of people venturing to the Aero Club on the General Aviation (GA) side of Mackay Airport to check out a great variety of displays including several single and twin engine vintage and other GA aircraft, model aircraft and aircraft engines, along with a nice variety of classic vehicles, motorbikes, and custom-built cars from the local drag racing club.
There was also constant movement around the Aero Club's parking apron with aerobatic and scenic aircraft flights operating during the day - notably by Mustang Flights Australia CAC CA-18 Mk21 Mustang VH-MFT 'Snifter' - which was also the centre of attention on Saturday 15 August during the Miss Mustang Official calendar shoot also at the Mackay Aero Club.
The 2016 calendars will be available for sale with proceeds going to the 'Mates4Mates' charity.
Meanwhile, the Mackay Tiger Moth Museum 1942-build De Havilland DH-82A Tiger Moth VH-CYA also operated flights during Sunday.
During the morning the Central Queensland Rescue Helicopter Service (CQ Rescue) Bell 412EP VH-CQJ made a dramatic arrival to the Wings and Wheels Day. It was open for display for some time and was in fact 'tasked' to Clermont later in the day!
The local Airport Firefighters were also showing off their very impressive fire truck.
In all it was a fantastic day, with lots of money raised for CQ Rescue, and what was even better was the Aero Club's parking apron was close to the main Runway at Mackay Airport making for some fantastic plane spotting opportunities. Needless-to-say, I took full advantage of the opportunity to get up close to some of the arrivals and departures during the morning - including Jetstar Airbus A320 VH-VFU, Virgin Australia Embraer E-190 VH-ZPH, Tiger (Tiger Airways) Australia Airbus A320 VH-VNJ and QantasLink Dash-8-Q400 Next Gen VH-LQJ.
I took many other plane spotting photos over the entire weekend - including from the recently opened Ibis Mackay Airport Hotel where I stayed on the Saturday night. Stay tuned!
In all it was a fantastic day, and thanks must go to the Mackay Aero Club for hosting such a wonderful event!
