Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Airbus A330-203 / KC-30A (MRTT) A39-004 Spotted Completing Airwork at Rockhampton Airport - Plus More!

On Thursday 22 June, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Airbus A330-200 / KC-30A Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) A39-004 was spotted climbing out after it completed a missed approach at Rockhampton Airport.

It was flying as "Dragon 26" and flew up from RAAF Base Amberley to the Exercise High Sierra restricted area, West of Townsville, where it complete air-to-air refuelling operations for some time.

The KC-30 then departed the area to the West, flying about halfway between Georgetown and Hughenden, before turning South and passing over Emerald and then holding at Thangool before then completing the missed approach at Rockhampton Airport.

From Rocky, A39-004 "Dragon 26" returned North back to the Exercise High Sierra restricted area for more air-to-air refuelling operations before finally returning to Amberley.

Meanwhile, also on Thursday 22 June, RAAF Boeing C-17A Globemaster III A41-210 as "Stallion 53", flew up from Amberley to complete a missed approach at Hamilton Island Airport.

It was photographed (above) flying back South down to Amberley while passing overhead Rockhampton Airport - and leaving a nice contrail!

Sincere thanks to local plane spotter Scott H for being at the right place at the right time and send through these photos!
