Cessna 200 Series Association Autumn Fly-in at Rockhampton Airport - Photos of the Final Three Arrivals from Friday

The Cessna 200 Series Association 2018 Autumn Fly-in is being held at Rockhampton over the course of Friday 27 April to Monday 30 April.

As mentioned below, some 13 aircraft - not only Cessnas - have touched down at Rockhampton Airport from all over Australia on Thursday 26 April and on Friday 27 April.  The participating aircraft aircraft are parked at various spots in the General Aviation (GA) side of Rockhampton Airport and on Saturday 28 April, local plane spotter Kayanne H popped out to Rockhampton Airport to capture some photos of the 'final three' arrivals from Friday:

Victoria-based Cessna P210R VH-TJQ

New South Wales-based Cessna T210N

New South Wales-based Cessna 182T VH-JLY

As mentioned below, there is a 14th aircraft participating in the fly-in - Comet-based Cessna U206G Stationair VH-FEG - which is already currently hangared at Rockhampton Airport undergoing maintenance.

Cessna 200 Series Association Autumn Fly-in at Rockhampton Airport - Some of the Friday Arrivals

The Cessna 200 Series Association 2018 Autumn Fly-in is being held at Rockhampton over the course of Friday 27 April to Monday 30 April.

And the arrivals continued on Friday 27 April, with seven more aircraft noted arriving into Rockhampton Airport.  This sees a total of 13 arrivals plus one further participant - Cessna U206G Stationair VH-FEG - already at Rockhampton Airport bringing the total to 14 participating aircraft - a great turn out!

Interestingly, during Friday, there were a couple of 'ring-ins' - non-Cessna 200 series aircraft - which reportedly arrived for the fly-in - and unfortunately local plane spotters Kayanne H and Trevor H were only able to be at Rockhampton Airport to capture photos of four of the seven arrivals.  They hope to capture and share some photos of the other three arrivals over the weekend!

Again, the arriving and participating aircraft were parked at various spots in the General Aviation (GA) side of Rockhampton Airport.  Kayanne and Trevor were able to spot:

South Australia-based Beech 95-B55 Baron VH-REP

Mackay-based Rockwell 114 VH-WFA

Western Australia-based P210N VH-PXK

Victoria-based 210R VH-LUP

A further three fly-in participants arrived during the early part of the afternoon - Victoria-based Cessna P210R VH-TJQ, New South Wales-based Cessna T210N and New South Wales-based Cessna 182T VH-JLY.

We hope to have photos of these three Cessnas over the weekend as the fly-in participants are exploring Rockhampton and the Capricorn region!

All participants were heartily welcomed by the Rockhampton Aero Club also on Friday.

Sincere thanks to Kayanne and Trevor for taking the time to capture and send through these great photos!

Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Alenia C-27J Spartan Transport Aircraft A34-006 "Kaos 51" Missed Approach at Rockhampton Airport

Late on Thursday 26 April, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Alenia C-27J Spartan A34-006 was spotted completing airwork at Rockhampton Airport.

It flew up from the South and completed a missed approach onto Runway 15 at Rocky before it continued to the North.  A34-006 was heard to be using the radio callsign of "Kaos 51".

The Alenia C-27J Spartan is a military transport aircraft developed and manufactured by Alenia Aermacchi.  The RAAF recently took delivery of its tenth and final C-27J Spartan battlefield airlifter after they were ordered by in May 2012 to replace the now-retired De Havilland DHC-4 Caribou fleet.

The RAAF C-27J Spartan aircraft complements the capabilities of the current C-130J Hercules and C-17A Globemaster aircraft and uses common C-130J Hercules infrastructure and aircraft systems such as engines, avionics and the cargo handling systems.  They will be equipped with missile warning systems, electronic self-protection and battlefield armour allowing them to operate freely in high-threat environments.

The current 10 Spartan aircraft will be based at RAAF Base Richmond initially before being based at RAAF Base Amberley and operated by 35 Squadron.  Initial Operating Capability (IOC) for the C-27J was achieved in December 2016, while Final Operating Capability (FOC) is now scheduled to be declared in late 2019.

2017 marked the 75th Anniversary of the RAAF's 35 Squadron and A34-006 was marked up with an Orange Wallaby tail stripe reminiscent of the Squadron's Caribou markings carried during the Vietnam War when it was affectionately known as 'Wallaby Airways'.
