More Great Photos as Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Boeing C-17A Globemaster III A41-209 Popped into Rockhampton Airport

As we posted below, last Friday 21 April, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Boeing C-17A Globemaster III A41-209 touched down at Rockhampton Airport.

Local plane spotter Scott H was also on hand to capture some great photos as the massive transport aircraft operated by the RAAF's 36 Squadron flew North from its RAAF Base Amberley home as "Stallion 50".

Once on the ground, fellow local plane spotter Russell P was also on hand as A41-209 was parked on Gate 6 on the Southern end of the Rockhampton Airport apron and soon after, the rear loading door was opened and a special guest appeared to be shown through the Globemaster.

The C-17 crew from 36 Squadron, RAAF Base Amberley, had a visit from Rockhampton local and RAAF veteran George Batts.  Mr Batts joined the RAAF in 1941 and was the fourth member of 36 Squadron when it was formed in Victoria in March 1942.  Mr Batts served in World War II as a Wireless Operator and Gunner.

After a couple of hours on the ground, the C-17 was closed up and it made a spectacular departure back to Amberley.

Sincere thanks to Scott and Russell for taking the time to capture and send through these great photos!
