Emerald Airport to Receive New Apron With Federal Government Funding

The Federal Government will spend more than $130 million on infrastructure projects in regional Queensland including airport upgrades and community centres. The announcement was made recently by Regional Australia Minister Simon Crean.

Among the projects to be secured was funding of $4.99m to the Central Highlands Regional Council, which will go towards the $9.98m needed for the proposed Emerald Airport Apron Extension.

The Airport apron upgrade is the first step towards separating Regular Passenger Transport (RPT) traffic, from the growing charter traffic, at the Emerald Airport.

It is expected that the upgrades to the Airport will commence in July with completion planned by November. It is expected that once the Airport apron parking facilities were increased, Council would look at establishing a charter-only fly-in fly-out (FIFO) terminal at the Airport.
