Since Virgin Australia announced the start of Bundaberg to Brisbane return flights less than a month ago, travellers from the rum city are snapping up a cheap deal.
Virgin had been offering a special promotional fare on sale until last week, with fares as little as $59 one way. While a Virgin spokesperson could not confirm how many tickets had been sold in the lead up to the maiden flight on Saturday 4 May, they did say the response had been "absolutely overwhelming".
The General Manager of The Bundaberg and North Burnett Tourism said it was important the community got behind the second airline carrier. They said airline competition was the key to competitive fares.
Virgin will offer a daily return service, operated by Skywest Airlines-operated ATR 72 turbo-prop aircraft. Flights will leave Brisbane at 12.40pm and arriving in Bundaberg at 1.40pm. The return flight will depart Bundaberg Airport at 2.10pm and arrive in Brisbane at 3.10pm.
The Virgin spokesperson also said a community day would be held before Saturday 4 May, where people would be able to tour the ATR 72 aircraft. This will give the community the opportunity to board the aircraft and ask the captain and crew any questions.
