Gladstone Airport's newly rebuilt and extended runway was officially opened on Tuesday 17 August with Gladstone Regional Council, airport workers, QantasLink, and Golding representatives gathering at the airport to witness the landing of the first commercial aircraft - a QantasLink Dash-8-Q400 - on the new runway.
The event culminated with a huge, 'christening' jet of water which streamed over the top of the QantasLink aircraft, courtesy of two Gladstone firefighting vehicles.
