Tiger Airways Cuts Flight to Rockhampton and Mackay Airports

Tiger Airways has announced a number of network changes in Central Queensland that will simplify its Australian flying programme. These changes aim to enable the airline to focus on restoring the punctuality of its operation.

As a consequence, two routes the airline currently flies into Central Queensland from Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) will be suspended from 01 August 2011. These are Tiger's Melbourne - Mackay and Melbourne - Rockhampton routes. Affected passengers on these routes will be contacted and provided with a full refund.

The airline’s flights to Mackay and Rockhampton had been been adversely affected by rising oil prices and the recent Queensland natural disasters. (In other words, too many empty seats or fares that were too low.)

A spokesperson for Tiger Airways said the dropped routes were very popular, and the airline was keen to return to them in the future, but only after it had achieved more reliability in its 10 jet operations.
