The end of Tigerair Australia flights to the Whitsundays region was one of three routes to be dropped in an announcement by the low-cost carrier's parent company, Virgin Australia, in November 2019.

Virgin Australia said that two A320s were also to be withdrawn.

In 2016, Virgin Australia announced plans to transition its Tigerair Australia fleet from A320s to 737-800s.
