RAAF Boeing P-8A Poseidon Maritime Surveillance Aircraft A47-011 "Blackcat 02" Completes Airwork at Proserpine (Whitsunday Coast) Airport - Plus A47-009 "Blackcat 03" Also Around

On Monday 26 October, a pair Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Boeing P-8A Poseidon Maritime Surveillance Aircraft were noted completing airwork in parts of Queensland including at least one missed approach up at Proserpine (Whitsunday Coast) Airport.

Poseidon A47-011 was heard to be flying as "Blackcat 02" and looked to depart its home at RAAF Base Edinburgh in South Australia before flying up to Townsville via airwork and missed approaches at RAAF Base Richmond, Brisbane and Proserpine Airport.

While Poseidon A47-009 was heard to be flying as "Blackcat 03" and also departed Edinburgh before also flying up to Townsville but via airwork at RAAF Base Amberley and Cairns where it was photographed above.

Of interest, a third Poseidon, A47-012 as "Blackcat 01" was also in the air out of Edinburgh but returned there after completing airwork at Albury and RAAF Base East Sale.

The "Blackcat" radio callsign suggests these P-8A Poseidon Maritime Surveillance Aircraft are of the RAAF's No. 11 Squadron based at RAAF Base Edinburgh in South Australia.

The Squadron forms part of  No. 92 Wing which is the maritime patrol wing of the RAAF and is responsible for long-range surveillance, anti-submarine and anti-surface warfare, search and survivor supply.
