(Former) Mackay-based Yakovlev Yak-18T VH-IBT Spotted at Rockhampton Airport Heading South to a New Owner

Also on Wednesday 2 February, Mackay-based Yakovlev Yak-18T VH-IBT was spotted at Rockhampton Airport.  It looked to arrive from Mackay Airport and then later depart to Archerfield via Gayndah Airport.

It is reported that the Yak Warbird is for sale and / or has been sold to a new owner in the South-East corner of the state.

The Russia built warbird is powered by a single Vedeneyev (Ivechenko) M-14P Piston engine.  It was also interesting to note that VH-IBT has its past registration marking (CCCP-44293) and home-country (Kazakhstan) under its current registration marking.  There is also an import badge for Red-Star Aviation.

Sad to see it leaving the region...
