Discussion on Proposed Changes to Cross Runway 04/22 at Rockhampton Airport to be Held on Monday 21 July

Stakeholders, pilots, and other interested parties are invited to attend a meeting to be held at the Rockhampton Aero Club Building on Monday 21 July regarding proposed changes to the smaller cross Runway 04/22 at Rockhampton Airport.

Few details are known about what will be discussed at the meeting, however it is understood that Rockhampton Regional Council may propose a significant shortening, or possibly decommissioning of Runway 04/22.

This follows media reports this week where Council wants to see a military precinct developed at the Rockhampton Airport, with land on currently occupied by Runway 04/22 sighted as one possible location for the secure precinct.  Should Runway 04/22 be shortened, it would be a similar length as those times when visiting military helicopters are parked on its Eastern end.

Rockhampton Airport plays a vital role in military exercises for the Australian Defence Force (ADF), along with the Singapore Armed Forces and United States Armed Forces, servicing the logistical and operational needs of military exercises at Shoalwater Bay, which is regarded as Australia's leading military training facility.

The meeting on Monday 21 July will commence at 7.00pm at the Rockhampton Aero Club building on the General Aviation (GA) side of Rockhampton Airport.  There will be a free Sausage Sizzle at 6.30 pm.

Anyone wishing to attend the meeting are kindly asked to RSVP to Judy at the Rockhampton Aero Club Office on 4922 4596 or email Paul Tyler at paul@rockhamptonaeroclub.org.au
