Former Mackay based Yakovlev Yak-52 VH-YAF Passes Through Rockhampton Airport on a Flight to New Home at Boonah

Following a relocation by the owner and his family, the former Mackay Airport based Yakovlev Yak-52 warbird VH-YAF called into Rockhampton Airport on Sunday 20 March while on a flight to its new home at Boonah, in the 'Scenic Rim' Region near Beaudesert in South East Queensland.

The former CQ Warbird Adventures aircraft was a frequent visitor and star attraction at the Mackay Aero Club Wings and Wheels days at Mackay Airport over the last couple of years, and it often made the trip North to the Whitsundays to operate flights out of the Whitsunday Airport at Shute Harbour.

Local plane spotters Kayanne H and Trevor H were on hand to capture a few photos as the Yak made a quick visit to Rockhampton Airport for fuel before it continued South.  The pilot also suspected that he may have been having engine troubles but a quick check revealed there was nothing to be concerned about!

Kayanne and Trevor would like to thank the pilot for his kind generosity in allowing them to have a closer look at this fantastic warbird.

I do hope we see it back in the skies over CQ one day soon!

Thanks to Kayanne and Trevor for sending through these great photos!
