Virgin Australia Embraer E-190 VH-ZPD in New Colours at Mackay Airport - Plus Bonus Inaugural to Cloncurry Airport

Maybe one of the CQ Plane Spotting Blog's favourite aircraft - Virgin Australia Embraer E-190 VH-ZPD - has returned from overseas with a new livery and a new name.

And VH-ZPD has recently called into Central Queensland in its new colours, with it being noted at Mackay on Friday 22 November and then again on Sunday 24 November.

VH-ZPD famously - or maybe infamously - was stuck at Gladstone Airport in late September after being struck by lightning while on a scheduled service from Brisbane.

VH-ZPD now looks resplendent in the new Virgin livery and bears the new name of "Dudley Beach".

Incidentally, the photos above - courtesy of Townsville-based plane spotter Dave - were taken at Cloncurry Airport. Obviously way outside of the Central Queensland region, but significant as on this occasion - Wednesday 27 November - it was Virgin Australia's inaugural flight into Cloncurry from Brisbane.  There was even the traditional water cannon salute - or in this case fire hose salute!

Thanks Dave!
