The first large Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) aircraft to be spotted in Central Queensland for 2016 occurred on Thursday 14 January when RAAF Boeing C-17A Globemaster III A41-206 performed a missed approach at Rockhampton Airport.
It flew up from RAAF Base Amberley and continued onto Townsville via overhead Mackay as "Stallion 17".
Coming off the traditional Christmas 'stand-down' period, several RAAF aircraft have been noted this week flying to overseas destinations and flying around various parts of Central Queensland performing airwork. Also on Thursday 14 January, RAAF Beech B350 Super King Air A32-675 "Dingo 05" was noted completing airwork at Emerald Airport while flying from RAAF Base Amberley to Townsville. While on Wednesday 13 January, A32-671 "Dingo 04" was noted completing airwork at both Bundaberg Airport and Hamilton Island Airport while also flying from Amberley to Townsville.
Sincere thanks to local plane spotter Kayanne H for capturing these photos of the C-17 at Rockhampton!
