And a Few Other Notable Movements at Rockhampton Airport - Including More USMC MV-22B Ospreys Spotted on Sunday!

While local plane spotters Travis W and Ben O captured many images of the spectacular USAF Lockheed C-5B Galaxy (see our Blog posts below), they also captured some fantastic images of a couple of other unique and special visitors to call into Rockhampton Airport over the weekend.

On Saturday 10 August, Ben spotted the beautifully presented Bell UH-1B Iroquois Helicopter VH-THY which is owned and operated by Tude's Choppers (Dwyer Aviation) in Townsville.  VH-THY called into Rockhampton Airport from parts unknown.

He also captured some lovely images of the new Australian Helicopters-operated Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service (CHRS) Bell 412 VH-LSY as it completed some training exercises around Rockhampton Airport.

On Sunday 11 August, Travis W was at the right place at the right time as a pair of United States Marine Corps (USMC) Bell Boeing MV-22B Osprey tilt-rotor aircraft of the Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (VMM-265) "Dragons" - part of the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing - called into Rockhampton Airport from the North.

The two Ospreys – 168031 / EP-08 and 168219 / EP-02 – weren't on the ground for long, and were captured by Travis as they departed together for the North.

Lastly, Travis also spotted Australian Helicopters Bell 412 VH-LSV parked outside the Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Hangar also on Sunday 11 August.

Until recently, VH-LSV has been based in the Shoalwater Bay Training Area (SWBTA) operating in a medi-evac role during Military Exercise Talisman Saber 2013.

Thanks to Ben and Travis for sending through their fantastic photos from such a great weekend!
