United States Air Force (USAF) Lockheed C-5B Galaxy 86-0018 Touches Down at Rockhampton Airport

One final highlight for Military Exercise Talisman Saber 2013 touched down under the cover of darkness on Friday 9 August in the form of United States Air Force (USAF) Lockheed C-5B Galaxy 86-0018.

The giant USAF transport aircraft arrived from Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii as "Reach 304".

The Galaxy is expected to stay parked on Gate 6 at the Southern end of the Rockhampton Airport apron for most of Saturday 10 August, before departing with the four United States Navy (USN) Sikorsky HH-60H Seahawk helicopters that have until recently, operated out of Rockhampton Airport.

Plane spotters and enthusiasts are reminded too that a minimum distance of 3m from the Rockhampton Airport perimeter fence is expected when not taking photos, and to please be mindful when taking photographs of personnel and equipment especially while the C-5 Galaxy is being loaded on Saturday.

I so wish I was there to see the mighty aircraft in person, however, I know that many local spotters were on hand for its arrival on Friday night and I have to say the photos that I have seen thus far are absolutely stunning!  My thanks to local father-and-son spotters Gordon C and Damien C for sending through their spectacular photos as seen above!
