Heavy Rains Cause Thangool / Biloela Airport to Close and Aircraft Diversions

With over 100mm (4 inches) of rain at Thangool Airport, and even more rain around the Biloela area, it's no surprise that passenger and freight services into Biloela / Thangool Airport have been affected.

Late on Thursday 11 December, the scheduled QantasLink Dash-8 service from and back to Brisbane - QLK2396/2397 - operated by Dash-8-Q300 VH-TQE was forced to land at Rockhampton after diverting from Thangool.  Around 10pm, it departed Rocky for Thangool, and after what looked like a quick turnaround, VH-TQE departed back to Brisbane.

Then early on Friday 12 December, the morning Toll Freight (Toll Express) Metro freight service from Brisbane to Emerald via Thangool - TFX110 operated by Metro III Expeditor VH-UZI - was spotted on the ground at Gladstone after being unable to land presumably due to the flood-water.

The Metro departed later to Emerald as planned.
