RAAF KC-30A (MRTT) A39-001 Missed Approach at Rockhampton Airport - Plus RAAF C-17s Airwork at Night This Week!

Local plane spotter 'IAD' was at the right place at the right time on Friday 13 May to capture some great photos as Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Airbus A330-203 / KC-30A (MRTT) A39-001 completed a missed approach at Rockhampton Airport.

It flew up from RAAF Base Amberley and looked to return South after the completion of the missed approach.

Meanwhile, late on Wednesday 11 May and then again late on Thursday 12 May, a RAAF Boeing C-17A Globemaster III transport aircraft was noted conducting a missed approach at Rockhampton Airport.  It is believed that A41-212 "Stallion 45" conducted the late night missed approach on Wednesday, while A41-213 "Stallion 47" conducted the missed approach on Thursday night.

I'm told that it was a great sight and sound!

One final RAAF aircraft noted passing through CQ also on Friday 13 May was Beech B350 Super King Air A32-339 which looked to possibly depart from Hamilton Island Airport and overfly Mackay while heading South to an unknown destination.  It was noted using the callsign "Torch 29".  Certainly a RAAF callsign I've never seen before!

Sincere thanks to 'IAD' for taking the time to capture and send through these great photos!
