United States Air Force (USAF) Boeing C-17A Globemaster III Transport Aircraft 99-0168 Finally Departs Rockhampton Airport Again as "Trek 24"

After arriving on the weekend and subsequently breaking down, on Wednesday 3 July, the visiting United States Air Force (USAF) Boeing C-17A Globemaster III transport aircraft 99-0168 finally departed Rockhampton Airport.

It departed direct to Hickam Air Force Base in Honolulu, Hawaii again as "Trek 24".

Of interest, 99-0168 is flown by The 517th Airlift Squadron (517 AS) which is part of the 3rd Wing at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska.

The Globemaster had arrived into Rocky from Hickam on Sunday 30 June and spent all of its time parked on Gate 6 on the Southern end of the Rockhampton Airport apron.

It suffered a technical problem which didn't see it move until Wednesday.

Reports suggest that with the limited aircraft options now caused by the Globemaster breaking down, Rockhampton Airport missed out of receiving at least one planned troop charter movement with a planned Omni Air International Boeing B767 visit diverted to Brisbane.

Sincere thanks to local plane spotters Scott H and 'IAD' for taking the time to capture and send through these great photos!
