Rockhampton Airport Operations Back to Normal After Fitzroy River Flood Peak

Rockhampton Plane Spotter 'IAD' has been keeping us informed of recent movements at Rockhampton Airport since it re-opened on Sunday 3 February, after the Fitzroy River flood-peak.

Sunday saw exclusively turbo-prop flights land at Rockhampton by both QantasLink Dash-8 and Virgin Australia (Skywest Airlines) ATR 72 aircraft.  

On Monday 4 February, the Queensland Police Service (Airwing) Cessna 560 Citation Ultra bizjet VH-PSU was the first 'jet' to land at Rockhampton, touching down early from Brisbane.  The first commercial jet to land was Virgin Australia Embraer E-190 VH-ZPL which touched down from Sydney as VOZ1567.  Later in the evening, Alliance Airlines Fokker F-100 VH-XWS also touched down at Rockhampton also operating for Virgin Australia.

On Tuesday 5 February, QantasLink (Cobham Aviation) Boeing B717-200 VH-NXI and Virgin Australia Boeing B737-800 VH-YIG, were the first of their types to land at Rockhampton Airport, signalling that operations at the Airport have returned to normal after the Fitzroy River flood-peak.
