While We've Been Away - News and Movements at CQ Airports 26-31 December

On Saturday 26 December at Hamilton Island Airport, Sundyne Cessna 650 Citation VII bizjet VH-SSZ flew in from Orange and out to Sydney.  Skypac Aviation Cessna 510 Citation Mustang bizjet VH-NEQ re-positioned across from Proserpine / Whitsunday Coast Airport and later departed to Mount Isa.  It had arrived in the Whitsundays on Monday 21 December.  Townsville Airlines (Flightech Air Logistics) Cessna 402C VH-THX visited Hamo briefly from its Cairns base.

On Saturday 26 December Jetstar Airways Airbus A320 VH-VQE touched down at Proserpine / Whitsunday Coast Airport operating the scheduled JST832 flight from Melbourne (Tullamarine) Airport.  It encountered a technical issue and remained parked at Prosie for the night departing back to Tulla around midday on Sunday 27 December as JST7831.

On Sunday 27 December at Gladstone Airport, Sundyne Cessna 650 Citation VII bizjet VH-SSZ touched down from Sydney.  Meanwhile, Corporate Aviation Bell 429 helicopter VH-EQP passed through Gladstone Airport on its way North to Hamilton Island from its Southport base.

On Sunday 27 December at Hamilton Island Airport, Marcplan Charter Gulfstream G-IV bizjet VH-MBP was spotted arriving from parts unknown.  Cessna 441 VH-JVL also called in but from its Adelaide base via Charleville.

On Monday 28 December there were multiple bizjet movements at Hamilton Island Airport.  Tower Holdings (Execujet Australia) Bombardier CL-600-2B16 Challenger 604 VH-EVJ arrived from Sydney and departed to Bathurst.  Edwards Coaches Cessna 650 Citation VII VH-LYM arrived from Sydney and departed to Armidale.  Silver Linings Aviation Cessna 680 Citation Sovereign VH-ZEK arrived from Bankstown.  Jet City (Melbourne) Cessna 750 Citation X VH-XCJ and Learjet 45 VH-LJQ both departed to Melbourne (Essendon) - they had both arrived on Hamo on Thursday 24 December.  Townsville Airlines (Flightech Air Logistics) Cessna 402C VH-THX also visited again from its Cairns base.  Cessna 441 VH-JVL was noted departing the Whitsunday Airport at Shute Harbour for Adelaide.

On Monday 28 December at Maryborough Airport, Pilatus PC-12/47 ZK-TIL visited briefly from the Sunshine Coast.  It departed to Kingaroy.  The New Zealand registered corporate turbo-prop seems to be currently based on the Gold Coast where it arrived in mid-December from 'across the ditch'.

On Monday 28 December at Longreach Airport, Careflight Queensland (Aeromed) LearJet 45 bizjet VH-CXJ made a surprise visit while flying from Mount Isa to Sydney.  It was again using its usual radio callsign of "Ambulance 452".

On Tuesday 29 December at Gladstone Airport, Sundyne Cessna 650 Citation VII bizjet VH-SSZ departed to Sydney (see above).

On Tuesday 29 December heavy rain showers in the Proserpine area caused Jetstar Airways Airbus A320 VH-VFQ to divert to Rockhampton Airport while operating the morning JST830 service from Brisbane to the Whitsunday Coast Airport.  VH-VFQ later departed back to Prosie before operating the JST833 service as per normal - albeit a little delayed.  Later, Virgin Australia Boeing B737-800 VH-VOT diverted to Mackay Airport while operating the VOZ1117 service from Brisbane to Proserpine.  It too later flew on to Prosie and operated the VOZ1116 service back to Brisbane.

Also on Tuesday 29 December at Rockhampton Airport, Surveillance Australia / Australian Border Force (ABF) Cobham Aviation-operated Dash-8-202 VH-ZZC was also spotted touching down at the completion of a sortie as "Borderforce 33".

On Tuesday 29 December at Hamilton Island Airport, Corning LLC Dassault Falcon 7X bizjet N716CG touched down from Hobart.  Business Aviation Solutions Bombardier CL-600-2B16 Challenger 604 bizjet VH-BLM also touched down but from Melbourne (Essendon) Airport.

On Wednesday 30 December at Rockhampton Airport, Pel-Air Aviation SAAB 340 Freighter VH-KDB touched down in the wee small hours from Brisbane as PFY7416 and appeared to break down.  Fellow Pel-Air SAAB Freighter VH-KDK was then noted positioning into Rocky from Brisbane as PFY9880 before it continued onto Mackay as PFY7418.  At the time of writing, VH-KDB remains parked at Rockhampton Airport.

Also on Wednesday 30 December at Rockhampton Airport, Airwork Ltd (New Zealand) MBB / Kawasaki BK-117 helicopter ZK-HQB was noted departing flying North.  On Thursday 31 December it was spotted flying in and out of Cairns while heading further North, possibly onwards to Papua New Guinea (PNG).

On Thursday 31 December at Bundaberg Airport, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Canadair CL-600-2B16 Challenger 604 bizjet A37-003 of the VIP 34 Squadron visited and was heard to depart to Canberra as "Envoy 92".

On Thursday 31 December at Mackay Airport, locally based Embraer EMB-550 Legacy 500 bizjet N142GZ departed to Melbourne (Essendon) and Sydney.

On Thursday 31 December at Bundaberg Airport, locally based Hawker Beechcraft G58 Baron N298WA returned 'home' after completing a flight to Victoria and Tasmania.

On Thursday 31 December at Gladstone Airport, Careflight Queensland (Aeromed) LearJet 45 bizjet VH-CXJ made a surprise arrival from Adelaide and was later noted departing to Brisbane again as "Ambulance 452".
