As posted below, on Saturday 27 July, a lovely pair of Qantas Airways aircraft graced the skies of Rockhampton and landed at Rockhampton Airport, both operating charters for the Australian Defence Force (ADF) following the completion of joint Military Exercise Talisman Sabre 2019 (TS19).
Boeing B747-438(ER) VH-OEH made a spectacular late morning arrival into Rockhampton Airport as QFA6162 from Sydney. It then departed direct to Darwin as QFA1362 before returning after dark as QFA6163.
VH-OEH departed Rockhampton Airport before dawn on Sunday 28 July, flying direct to Adelaide as QFA1364. It then positioned to Sydney as QFA6164.
While Boeing B737-800 VH-VXQ - named 'Retro Roo II' - also called into Rockhampton Airport, arriving from Brisbane empty as QFA6160 before also departing to Darwin but as QFA1360. VH-VXQ then returned to Brisbane empty as QFA6164.
As mentioned previously on the CQ Plane Spotting Blog, VH-VXQ is painted into the original colour scheme that was introduced by the first jet aircraft that Qantas flew, the Boeing B707, when it first entered service in 1959. In fact, it is a livery similar to that worn by former Qantas Boeing B707 VH-XBA (ex VH-EBA) which is on display at the Qantas Founders Museum at Longreach Airport.
Sincere thanks to local photographer Russell P for taking the time to capture and send through these stunning photos of a great visitor to Rockhampton Airport!
