Three Nice Vintage Warbird Aircraft Pop into CQ Airports - And Spotted at Longreach Airport
Over the last couple of days, a nice trio of vintage warbird aircraft have been transiting through various inland Central Queensland Airports after originally departing the South-East corner of the state. Their ultimate destination is not fully known.
They were identified as Aerostar YAK-52TW VH-POW, North American Aviation T-28B Trojan VH-RPX and Nanchang CJ-6A VH-TWF.
On Tuesday 14 July, at least two of the three warbirds were noted departing Watts Bridge Airfield and landing at Roma Airport for fuel. They then continued to Charleville Airport where they spent the night.
Then on Wednesday 15 July, all three warbirds departed Charleville Airport and were photographed above arriving in formation into Longreach Airport.
They then reportedly continued to Winton Airport, but as mentioned, their final destination is unknown.
UPDATE! On Monday 27 July, the Aerostar YAK-52TW VH-POW was noted departing Gladstone Airport for Watts Bridge.
Awesome!

On Wednesday 6 May, recently re-registered Jampair P/L Embraer EMB-505 Phenom 300E bizjet VH-NSQ was noted calling into Hervey Bay (Fraser Coast) Airport. It looked to arrive from Bankstown via Coffs Harbour and Archerfield.
After a short time on the ground, VH-NSQ departed Hervey Bay Airport and returned to Bankstown again via Coffs Harbour.
Meanwhile, also on Wednesday 6 May, Brisbane-based Bishopp Aviation SOCATA TBM-700 VH-VSV popped into Rockhampton Airport from Atherton in Far North Queensland. It then departed to Archerfield.
While yet again, also on Wednesday 6 May, Seair Pacific / Istlecote DHC-6-100 Twin Otter VH-ZKF arrived into Rockhampton Airport from the Gold Coast and Brisbane before it then departed to Collinsville Aerodrome and Townsville. It later returned to Collinsville Aerodrome and Rockhampton Airport before heading 'home' to the Gold Coast via Brisbane.
And CJ Aerospace (Altitude Aviation) Raytheon B200 King Air VH-EEL was noted arriving into Charters Towers Aerodrome from its Archerfield base via the Sunshine Coast also on Wednesday 6 May.
UPDATE! On Thursday 7 May, VH-EEL returned to Archerfield via the Sunny Coast.
Finally, on Tuesday 5 May, RCS Aviation (Victoria) Ted Smith Aerostar 601P VH-HFY was spotted at Mackay Airport after arriving from Townsville.
While Brisbane-based Piper PA-31-350 VH-RPV also visited Mackay Airport but from Archerfield, and FKG Air (Redjet Aviation) Hawker Beechcraft B200GT VH-FKB also visited Mackay Airport but from its Toowoomba base. VH-FKB was also back at Mackay Airport on Wednesday 6 May.

Gulf Coast Aviation Cessna 510 Citation Mustang Bizjet VH-KXM Pops into Roma Airport - Plus Embraer Legacy 500 Bizjet N142GZ Returns to Mackay Airport!
On Thursday 7 March, Gulf Coast Aviation Cessna 510 Citation Mustang bizjet VH-KXM was noted heading home from Normanton to Bankstown, this time calling into Cairns and Roma Airports while flying South.
It had flown North on Monday 4 March - see Blog post below.
Meanwhile, also passing through Roma Airport, also on Thursday 7 March, was C J Aerospace (of New South Wales) Ted Smith Aerospace Corp. 601P VH-XHA. It arrived from Cairns (where it seems to have been operating of late) and later departed to Bankstown.
Finally, also on Thursday 7 March, locally-based Embraer EMB-550 Legacy 500 bizjet N142GZ was noted finally returning to Mackay Airport following a lengthy stay at Sydney - perhaps undergoing planned maintenance.
It had flown South to Sydney in late January.

Photos and Report from the Mechanos Wings and Wheels at Mackay Airport on Saturday
With sincere thanks to local plane spotter 'JM', we can bring you some excellent photos of some of the action at the very successful Mechanos Wings and Wheels which was held at Mackay Airport on Saturday 11 August.
As the photos show, 1000s of people from all over Mackay and surrounding areas ventured to Mackay Airport to check out a wide variety of locally-based General Aviation (GA) and ultralight aircraft and helicopters, as well as Graham Aviation (Cairns) Cessna 510 Citation Mustang bizjet VH-FNI which visited for the day.
Also on display were numerous classic and antique cars, motorbikes, trucks, trains and general machinery. Local model clubs and local drone operators also had displays.
Other activities during the day included joyflights, a demonstration by the local aviation rescue fire-fighting service, live entertainment and rides for the kids!
There was also a stunning airshow flying program highlighted by displays by no less than five of Paul Bennet Airshows' aircraft including Wolf Pitts Pro VH-PVB, Grumman TBM-3E Avenger VH-MML, CAC CA-3 Wirraway VH-WWY, Aerostar YAK-52 VH-MHH and North American T-28B Trojan VH-FNO.
Of interest, it appeared that both at least VH-MML and VH-FNO possibly returned home to Maitland Airport in New South Wales via Roma Airport on Sunday 12 August.
Another warbird to highlight the airshow program was the late Col Pay's Curtiss Wright Corp P-40E Kittyhawk VH-KTY (41-25109 / RAF serial ET433).
A little later, VH-KTY was joined by Paul Bennet's Avenger VH-MML and Trojan VH-FNO in a three-ship warbird formation display. Spectacular!
And finally, perhaps the highlight of the day on Saturday 11 August was the visit from RAAF Base Richmond in New South Wales by Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Lockheed C-130J-30 Hercules A97-447 which made at least one low over the top, plus a landing and 'power-back' display at the Wings and Wheels before it departed and flew back to Richmond as "Trojan 27".
It certainly looked like a lovely day at Mackay and we sincerely thank 'JM' for taking the time to capture and allow us to share his fantastic photos!
