Chartright Air (Canada) Bombardier Global Express Bizjet C-GNRS Departs a Busy Hamilton Island Airport on Saturday

On Saturday 7 January, the visiting Chartright Air Inc (Canada) Bombardier BD-700-1A10 Global Express bizjet C-GNRS departed Hamilton Island Airport for Sydney.  It had arrived from there on Wednesday 4 January.

A little later on Saturday 7 January, Falconair (NSW) Dassault Falcon 20F-5 VH-PNY called into Hamilton Island Airport from the Sunshine Coast.  It departed a short time later for Sydney before then returning to the Sunny Coast.

Reports suggest it was chartered by passengers that were left stranded by the cancellation of a Virgin Australia flight earlier on Saturday 7 January.  Boeing B737-800 VH-YVA was operating to Hamo from Sydney as VOZ1281 and flew up to Hamo but turned back and landed at Rockhampton Airport where it took on fuel.

It is unclear why VH-YVA did this however it could be due to the lack of aircraft parking that was available at Hamilton Island Airport at the time it was due to arrive.  There were reports that due to rather inclement weather over parts of Central Queensland and the Whitsundays, some of the other inbound aircraft to Hamo at the time were forced to hold before landing.

Of interest, Saturday 7 January saw additional flights operated by Virgin Australia and Qantas Airways to cater for increased holiday loads.  Virgin Boeing B737-800 VH-YVD was noted operating an additional service from and back to Sydney as VOZ1283/1284, while Qantas Boeing B737-800 VH-XZG was noted operating an additional service also from and back to Sydeny but as QFA1172/1173.

All other scheduled Regular Passenger Transport (RPT) flights in and out of Hamo operated as per normal on Saturday 7 January.

At the time of writing, there is another additional flight into Hamilton Island Airport from and back to Sydney on Sunday 8 January as VOZ95352/9534.

As we mentioned on our Facebook page, there have been no commercial flights in and out of the Proserpine / Whitsunday Coast Airport over the course of Saturday 7 January and on Friday 6 January due to the inclement weather.

Back at Hamilton Island Airport, a couple more bizjet movements included the departure of Homada Pty Ltd Cessna 560XL Citation XLS VH-XCU on Friday 6 January back to Melbourne (Essendon) and then Melbourne (Moorabbin).  It had arrived back on Wednesday 28 December.

And on Thursday 5 January, Henadeck Cessna 525 Citation CJ1 VH-YNE arrived at Hamilton Island Airport from Bankstown.  It is still parked at Hamo.

Finally, as mentioned in our previous Hamo post, AAA Aircraft / Flight Options (Australia) Cessna 650 Citation III bizjet VH-SPJ did depart Hamilton Island Airport for Sydney and Bankstown around dawn on Thursday 5 January.  It had arrived from Sydney on Monday 2 January.
