Tiger Airways Grounded as Virgin Australia and Jetstar Commence Upgraded and Additional Services to CQ Airports

On Saturday 2 July, The Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia (CASA) issued instruction to suspend Tiger Airways Australia's domestic services until next Saturday 9 July. This affects Tiger's flights from both Mackay and Rockhampton.

CASA said it has taken the action because it believes permitting the airline to continue to fly poses a serious and imminent risk to air safety.

The airline has announced that its immediate focus is on reaching those passengers whose immediate travel plans have been disrupted by the suspension of services, as well as their ongoing cooperation with CASA.

Tiger Airways is offering these passengers its sincere apologies and will continue to do all that we can to minimise future disruption. Those who are affected will be offered a full refund or credit for deferred travel.

Customers with bookings within Australia between now and 6:00am on Saturday 9 July, to NOT travel to the airport.

Virgin Australia, Jetstar Airways, and Qantas have all offered to assist affected Tiger Airways' travelers where possible over the coming week.

Meanwhile, from Friday 1 July, and in a boost for Mackay passengers, Virgin Australia has upgraded several of its flights between Mackay and Brisbane from Embraer E-190 jets to larger Boeing B737 type aircraft, while Jetstar has finally reinstated its four-times daily flights between Mackay and Brisbane.
