During the afternoon on Monday 15 January, Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Airbus A330-200 / KC-30A Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) A39-002 was noted completing a missed approach at Rockhampton Airport. It is the second time in a week that this particular KC-30 has flown into CQ airspace.
During the morning, it had flown North from RAAF Base Amberley and during the afternoon, it looked to call into Rocky from the North. After completing the missed approach, A39-002 continued back to Amberley. It was noted using the radio callsign of “Dragon 11”.
Meanwhile, last Wednesday 10 January, an unidentified Australian Army NH Industries MRH-90 Multi-Role Helicopter was heard to be flying in parts of the Fraser Coast as “Saxon 89”. It is believed to have flown up from the Oakey Army Aviation Centre to the Fraser Coast area and completed airwork for some time around both Maryborough and Hervey Bay Airports.
Sincere thanks to local plane spotter Daniel B who was at the right place at the right time to capture some photos as the KC-30 climbed out of Rocky.
