American Registered Bombardier BD-700-1A10 Global 6000 Bizjet N60XC - Plus Flight Options (Australia) Cessna 560 Citation Ultra Bizjet VH-MMC - Both Back at Emerald Airport

During a quick visit to Emerald Airport on Thursday 28 February, I was surprised to see and photograph American registered Bombardier BD-700-1A10 Global 6000 N60XC sitting on the main parking apron.  It appeared to arrive from Brisbane late on Wednesday 27 February.

N60XC is a regular visitor to CQ and last called into Emerald Airport at the start of February.  Moreover, it appears that N60XC has remained in Australia throughout the month, operating from both Brisbane and Sydney Airports.

At the time of writing, and after spending the day parked, it appears that N60XC is spending at least another night on the ground at Emerald Airport.

UPDATE!  N60XC departed Emerald Airport and returned to Brisbane on Friday 1 March.

Meanwhile, also photographed parked at Emerald Airport, also on Thursday 28 February, was Mackellar Mining Equipment / Flight Options (Australia) Cessna 560 Citation Ultra bizjet VH-MMC.

It flew across from Biloela / Thangool Airport earlier in the morning after arriving there early on Wednesday 27 February - see Blog post below.

McGilvray Aviation (West Wing Aviation) BN2A-21 Islander VH-WQA Pops into Rockhampton Airport

Very late on Saturday 23 December, McGilvray Aviation (West Wing Aviation) Pilatus Britten-Norman BN2A-21 Islander VH-WQA was noted calling into Rockhampton Airport from Townsville.

File photo taken by Dave  ©

After taking on fuel, it departed to Archerfield where I assume it will be undergoing planned maintenance.

VH-WQA had arrived into Townsville from Mareeba late on Friday 22 December and I presume from planned flights that its journey South was delayed by a day.

Meanwhile, also popping into Rockhampton Airport, but much earlier on Saturday 23 December was Rolleston-based Cessna 310 VH-XBB.  It arrived from Consuelo Airport (South of Rolleston) and departed to Archerfield.

Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) (Cobham SAR Services Pty Ltd) Bombardier Challenger 604 Bizjet VH-XND "Rescue 660" at Mackay Airport

The search for a man off the coast of Mackay on Monday 9 January has seen Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) (Cobham SAR Services Pty Ltd) Bombardier CL-600-2B16 Challenger 604 bizjet VH-XND "Rescue 660" fly South from its Cairns base to coordinate the operation.

The man is missing near Middle Percy Island, 70 kilometres southeast of Mackay.

Early on Sunday, the Central Queensland (CQ Rescue) Helicopter Service / Babcock Mission Critical Services Australasia Bell 412 helicopter VH-LSY "Rescue 422" completed a two-hour mission from Mackay Airport but failed to locate the missing man.

Later on Sunday 9 January, VH-XND was noted landing at Mackay Airport for fuel and a crew change.

West Wing Aviation Beech B200 King Air VH-XDW was noted arriving into Mackay Airport from Cairns on Sunday 9 January, presumably ferrying the replacement crew for "Rescue 660".

At the time of writing, both VH-XND and VH-XDW are returning to Cairns.

BPW Aviation / Airspeed Aviation (Scone) Cessna 404 Titan VH-SKV at Bundaberg and Emerald Airports

Over the last week or so. it has been interesting to note that BPW Aviation / Airspeed Aviation of Scone, New South Wales, Cessna 404 Titan VH-SKV has visited both Bundaberg and Emerald Airports while flying through various parts of Queensland.

It looked to initially touch down at Bundaberg Airport from Brisbane on Monday 2 January before being noted at Emerald Airport and returning to Bundaberg Airport on Thursday 5 January.

BPW Aviation trades as Airspeed Aviation and is an award-winning family owned business based at Scone Airport, with branches in Tamworth, Gunnedah and Narrabri.

Cessna 560 Citation Ultra Bizjet VH-MMC Back at Emerald Airport - Plus a Few Lighties Around Both Emerald and Longreach Airports

It's been a busy week around both Emerald and Longreach Airports with a nice variety of light General Aviation (GA) aircraft visiting, plus a familiar bizjet.

On Tuesday 17 May, Mackellar Mining Equipment / Flight Options (Australia) Cessna 560 Citation Ultra bizjet VH-MMC called into Emerald Airport once again from its Sunshine Coast base.  This is its second visit in a fortnight.

At the time of writing, VH-MMC has departed Emerald Airport for the Sunshine Coast late on Thursday 19 May.

Meanwhile, the 'invasion' of interesting lighties into Emerald Airport started last Thursday 12 May with Brisbane-based Piper PA-32R-301T VH-PDY visiting from Archerfield.  On Friday 13 May, I spotted Flight One (Services) Cirrus SR22 VH-VGG parked while make one of its usual Friday visits from Archerfield as well as the smart looking Melbourne VIP Charter Pilatus PC-12/47E VH-PIU which looked to be making a series of flights to properties and remote airstrips all over outback Queensland - it has also visited Longreach Airport - see below!

Also visiting Emerald Airport on Friday 13 May was Piper PA-PA-23-250 Aztec VH-EQD which was returning South to Archerfield from a trip to the Far North of Queensland.

On Saturday 14 May, Air Link Cessna 310R VH-BWQ was believed to have called into Emerald Airport from Townsville.  It departed to its Dubbo base in New South Wales.

On Sunday 15 May, Brisbane-based Cirrus SR22 VH-YJX called in from Archerfield and later departed to Cooktown.

It's also worth mentioning that out at Longreach Airport there has equally been an interesting variety of light GA visitors starting last Friday 13 May with (former?) West Wing Aviation-operated Cessna 208 VH-TQB positioning to Adelaide (where it is owned) from Cairns via Longreach and Broken Hill.

Meanwhile, it has been pretty 'quiet' on Hamo in terms of exotic movements with the highlights being another visit by Agile Aviation (of South Australia) Pilatus PC-12/47E VH-TCP which called in from Adelaide and Charleville on Sunday 8 November.  It departed to Archerfield soon after.

While last Friday 6 November, West Wing Aviation Cessna 208 Caravan VH-WZJ operated a return flight to Hamo from Townsville.  Fellow West Wing Caravan VH-TIY operated a similar flight on Monday 2 November.  Both Caravans usually operate several return flights to Palm Island from Townsville during most weekdays.

Alliance Airlines Charters Call into Hamilton Island Airport - And More!

An interesting pair of movements to call into Hamilton Island Airport over the weekend with Alliance Airlines Fokker F-100 jets VH-XWO and VH-FKJ operating what appeared to be charter flights from and back to Sydney.

File photo taken by ‘IAD’  ©

On Friday 30 October, VH-XWO flew from Brisbane to Sydney and on to Hamilton Island as UTY551/553.  It then flew onto Townsville as UTY554.

Then on Sunday 1 November, VH-FKJ departed Townsville for Hamilton Island as UTY551.  It then flew to Sydney and then Brisbane as UTY552/554.

Also Sunday 1 November Townsville Airlines (Flightech Air Logistics) Cessna 402C VH-THX called into Hamilton Island, touching down from Lizard Island and departing to Cairns.

At the time of writing on Monday 2 November, Cessna 525 Citation M2 bizjet VH-WMY of Mitchell Water Australia was due to call into Hamo from Brisbane.  Also West Wing Aviation Cessna 208 Caravan VH-TIY was also due to operate a return flight into Hamo from and back to Townsville.

One other bizjet - Cessna 550 Citation Bravo VH-EYJ of Executive Airlines at Essendon - was noted departing Hamilton Island for Sydney and Essendon on Thursday 29 October.  It had arrived on Monday 26 October.

Meanwhile, it was interesting to note that a second Jetstar Airways Airbus A320 broke down on Hamilton Island last week.  After arriving from Sydney as JST846 on Thursday 29 October, VH-VQK was noted flying out of Hamilton Airport on Friday 30 October, positioning back to Sydney empty early as JST7301.  Fellow A320 VH-VGZ broke down earlier in the week.

A Few Other Plane Spotting Photos from Hamilton Island Airport on Saturday - New Virgin Australia B737-800 VH-YFS

As well as trying to capture some of the light General Aviation (GA) aircraft involved in the 2015 Steadfast Foundation Outback Air Race (SOAR), I also managed to take a few photos of some of the other - and bigger - comings and goings at Hamilton Island Airport on Saturday 5 September.

We arrived on beautiful Hamilton Island around 9am and after a brisk walk around to the Airport, I was in time to capture the first commercial visitor for the day in the form of QantasLink Dash-8-Q400 Next Gen VH-LQJ which operated the QLK2503/2504 service from and back to Cairns.

Meanwhile, some of the light aircraft involved in the Outback Air Race - which as posted below were parked on the far side of Hamilton Island Airport after arriving on Friday 4 September - started departing to various points around Queensland.  The biggest aircraft involved in the Outback Air Race remained parked on the Eastern side of the Airport in the form of Tamworth-Based Eclipse EA500 bizjet N227G.  It eventually departed home to Tamworth on Monday 7 September.

Locally-based scenic flight and transfer and charter operators Whitsunday Air Services and Hamilton Island Air had pretty much all of their aircraft and helicopters in the air operating flights around Hamilton Island and to other points further afield around the beautiful Whitsundays.  Gippsland Aeronautics GA-8 Airvan VH-KIQ was spotted departing on one such scenic flight early on Saturday.

As were their Cessna 208FP Caravan VH-WTY and De Havilland DHC-2 Beaver Float Plane VH-ZDA.

Robinson R-44s VH-UXW and VH-TGZ. were also kept busy.

As was Bell 206L-3 VH-VTU.

And finally, their recently acquired Eurocopter EC120B Colibri VH-WII returned from a local flight and remained parked for most of the day.

One other interesting light aircraft to be spotted visiting Hamilton Island Airport on Saturday 4 September was West Wing Aviation Cessna 208 Caravan VH-XDU.  The Caravan touched down from Townsville, and after dropping off some passengers, positioned across to the Whitsunday Airport at Shute Harbour where it was parked for the night.  VH-XDU returned to Hamo on Sunday 5 September and later returned to Townsville.

But perhaps the most spectacular visitors into Hamilton Island Airport on Saturday 5 September were the Regular Passenger Transport (RPT) aircraft which called in from Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.  First to touch down was Qantas Airways Boeing B737-800 VH-VXN which operated the QFA866/867 service from and back to Sydney.

It was joined at Hamo by fellow Qantas B737-800 VH-XZD which was captured operating the QFA870/871 service from and back to Melbourne (Tullamarine) Airport.

Also touching down at Hamo from Melbourne was Virgin Australia Boeing B737-800 VH-YFQ.  It operating the VOZ1751/1754 service.

And making a spectacular debut into Central Queensland was Virgin Australia B737-800 VH-YFS "Sellicks Beach" which operated the VOZ1281/1282 service from and back to Sydney.  It was the aircraft's second day of operations after arriving into Australia from the Boeing Factory in mid-August.

Finally, before I popped over to the 'resort side' of Hamilton Island for lunch, I captured QantasLink Dash-8-Q400 VH-QOB as it touched down operating the QLK2824/2825 service from and back to Brisbane.

I had a really enjoyable morning!  And the weather was stunning!  Certainly the Whitsundays at its finest!
