SG Aviation Bombardier BD-700-1A10 Global Express XRS Bizjet VH-SGA Pops into Rockhampton Airport as Beef Australia 2018 Kicks off

On Sunday 6 May, Australia’s national beef expo - Beef Australia 2018 - commenced at the Rockhampton Showgrounds and the influx of commercial and private aircraft into Rockhampton Airport started in spectacular fashion.

During the latter part of the morning, SG Aviation (of Victoria) Bombardier BD-700-1A10 Global Express XRS bizjet VH-SGA was noted touching down at Rockhampton Airport from Melbourne (Tullamarine).  It later returned South and was noted heading towards Melbourne (Essendon).

UPDATE!  We have since received information suggesting that VH-SGA came to Rockhampton Airport in support of the visiting Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) (Cobham SAR Services Pty Ltd) Bombardier CL-600-2B16 Challenger 604 bizjet VH-XNF "Rescue 550" which, as reported below, flew all the way up from its Melbourne (Essendon) base to Rockhampton to assist in the search for a missing crew member from a boat sailing in waters off the Capricorn Coast.

Meanwhile, also noted visiting Rockhampton Airport on Sunday 6 May - and not 100% confirmed to be associated with Beef Australia 2018 - Aero Professional Services Piper PA-46-310P Malibu VH-BGK from and back to its Emerald base, Raytheon A36 Bonanza VH-VLV arrived from its Blackall base, Crown Cattle Cessna 210N VH-FXC arrived from its Hughenden base, Cessna 172RG VH-JIX arrived from its Townsville base and Georgina Pastoral Co. of Gympie Cessna U206G VH-TOC arrived into Rockhampton Airport from the West.

Of interest, on Saturday 5 May, Cessna 208 Caravan VH-DJG visited from Archerfield and New South Wales-based Cessna 182S VH-WOZ arrived from Wellington (NSW).

Finally, both Qantas / QantasLink and Virgin Australia 'up-gauged' their scheduled services into Rockhampton Airport during the afternoon and evening also on Sunday 6 May.

Virgin was noted operating Boeing B737-800s VH-YFG (pictured), VH-YFC and VH-YIS on scheduled services from and back to Brisbane, while Qantas / QantasLink operated Cobham Aviation Boeing B717-200s VH-NXR, VH-YQS and VH-NXI also on scheduled services from and back to Brisbane.

At the time of writing, more nice arrivals look to be coming on Monday 7 May - stay tuned for more reports and hopefully photos!
